INTEGRATIVE PSYCHOTHERAPY &
EVIDENCE-INFORMED THERAPEUTIC MODALITIES

Psychological wellbeing is rarely shaped by a single factor. Thoughts, emotions, past experiences, behavioural patterns, and physiological responses often interact in complex ways.

Integrative psychotherapy recognises this complexity and brings together complementary therapeutic approaches to support meaningful and lasting psychological change. Rather than relying on a single model, therapy is tailored to the individual.

The therapeutic work at Lumora Mindworks may draw from a range of evidence-informed and integrative approaches, including clinical hypnotherapy, eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR), ego state therapy (EST), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), addictive behaviour and psychological pain approaches, and other integrative psychotherapy methods, with techniques applied thoughtfully according to each person’s needs and therapeutic goals.

These approaches work together to support emotional regulation, deeper psychological insight, behavioural change, and long-term resilience.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured psychotherapy approach that supports the processing of distressing or emotionally significant experiences. The method is based on the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model, which proposes that psychological distress may arise when experiences are not fully processed and continue to influence present thoughts, emotions, and behavioural responses.

EMDR has been recognised by several international organisations as an evidence-based psychotherapy for processing traumatic and distressing experiences, including guidelines published by the World Health Organization (WHO), the American Psychological Association (APA), and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

During EMDR therapy, structured procedures and bilateral stimulation are used to facilitate the reprocessing of these experiences. As memories are processed differently, the emotional intensity associated with them may reduce, allowing individuals to respond with greater clarity, emotional regulation, and psychological flexibility.

EMDR has been applied across a range of psychological and behavioural contexts. The examples below illustrate some areas where it may be used, though they are not exhaustive.

phobias

relationship distress, including jealousy and emotional conflict

panic-related difficulties

chronic emotional or physical pain

behavioural patterns such as smoking or vaping

eating-related or weight-related behavioural patterns

complex or past traumatic stress

unresolved recent distressing experiences

performance anxiety

bereavement and loss

Lumora Mindworks continues to expand its therapeutic approaches through ongoing professional development, with additional modalities thoughtfully integrated over time.

"The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change."
