INTEGRATIVE PSYCHOTHERAPY

Every person is unique, and so is their journey. Our thoughts, emotions, past experiences, relationships, habits, and nervous system all work together to shape how we experience the world. That's why we take an integrative approach to therapy, tailoring your care to your individual needs, goals, preferences, and personal circumstances.

Following a careful assessment, we develop a personalised treatment plan by drawing on the approaches best suited to you. This may include Clinical Hypnotherapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Ego State Therapy (EST), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), Addictive Behaviour & Psychological Pain (ABPP), and other therapeutic approaches where appropriate.

The sections below introduce the therapeutic approaches that may form part of your personalised treatment plan.

EMDR is a structured psychotherapy approach based on the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model, which proposes that psychological distress can occur when difficult experiences are not fully processed and continue to influence present thoughts, emotions, and behaviours.

EMDR is recognised as an evidence-based treatment for trauma by organisations including the World Health Organization (WHO), the American Psychological Association (APA), and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

During EMDR therapy, bilateral stimulation and structured procedures are used to facilitate the adaptive processing of unresolved experiences. As previously distressing memories are processed differently, their emotional intensity may decrease, allowing individuals to respond with greater clarity, flexibility, and resilience.

While best known for trauma treatment, EMDR may also be applied to difficulties such as anxiety, phobias, performance-related concerns, and other challenges where past experiences continue to influence present-day functioning.

Ego State Therapy is a parts-based psychotherapy approach that helps individuals understand and work with the parts of themselves that influence their thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and experiences, fostering greater self-understanding, emotional resilience, and a stronger sense of inner harmony.

These parts are a normal aspect of human experience and may hold different emotions, beliefs, memories, needs, or protective patterns that developed over time. By helping these parts communicate and work together more effectively, Ego State Therapy can support emotional healing, trauma recovery, behavioural change, and improved emotional regulation.

Ego State Therapy is a well-established approach widely used in trauma and dissociation work. Research has shown promising outcomes in areas such as trauma symptoms, anxiety, depression, coping, emotional regulation, and behavioural change. At Lumora Mindworks, Ego State Therapy is integrated with approaches such as EMDR and Clinical Hypnotherapy where appropriate to support lasting therapeutic change.
